Dear Radical Feminists in attendance at the Shulamith Firestone Women’s Liberation Memorial Conference on What is to be Done,
I too, was gathered with you for this conference in New York City. I was excited to be involved in a consciousness raising session, and interested to hear your collective thoughts on what is to be done. I had heard the criticisms of transphobia within your movement, but naively hoped such sentiment came from a small, removed faction. As I sat among you, and your notable speakers, I realized I couldn’t have been more wrong. Transphobia and transmisogyny are alive and well within your walls. The disdain with which you referred to trans women and your collective refusal to accept them as women was shocking and horrifying. This letter is to voice what I did not have the courage, or the words to say when I was in your presence.

In the real-life disaster that was the Republican Tea Party's government shutdown, "women and children first" was the order in which victims of the shutdown were selected.
For example, programs that support women and children with nutrition assistance were suspended. Women who suffered domestic violence couldn't access services funded by the Violence Against Women Act. The list goes on and on...
The majority of voters opposed the shutdown and especially its disruption of vital social and health services. And you may have felt helpless in the face of this outrageous governance-by-hostage-taking.
But there is something we can do. We can make sure this never happens again. It's time we seize the moment to ensure we're represented by a new, progressive majority in Congress in 2014! Please donate to NOW today and make sure women and their families do come first, reversing decades of attacks on our economic security, our access to reproductive health services, and even our ability to be protected against sexual assault and domestic violence.
Your donation today will help us identify pro-woman candidates, get the word out about what's at stake for women in next year's elections, register and educate voters on where the candidates stand, and fuel our grassroots organizing power in battleground states.
Together we can ensure that in next year's elections, "women and children first" won't mean we're the first ones to suffer — we'll be leading the way to a better future. I hope you'll show your support for this brighter future with a donation to NOW today.

entities and other actors in their efforts at ensuring that a solid legal basis is in place for tackling the scourge of violence against women.

#solidarityisforwhitewomen creator Mikki Kendall has kindly agreed to join our Google Video Hangout on Thursday, September 5th, 8pm CST. We are using Google Hangout since it's free, allows video chat, live streaming and the ability to record and view later. Unfortunately, the free platform allows only 10 people to participate in the chat. We can still take in questions via Twitter using the #solidarityisforwhitewomen hashtag. Since we can only have 10 attendees this time, we are going to give preference to women of color and LGBTQAI feminists. We hope to make this a regular chat and can invite others next time.

UltraViolet's going to be in NYC , and I think you'd be interested in joining us. Here's what's going on: Rick Perry recently vetoed a popular, bipartisan equal pay bill in Texas. It turns out, Macy's secretly lobbied him to veto it. This is a huge deal for women, and we need to show Macy's that they can't get away with this, in Texas or anywhere else in the country.
So, we'll be gathering at their flagship store in Herald Square — the best place to shine a spotlight on Macy's — and we need tons of people there to get the attention of the media. You should come!
Nearly 80,000 UV members have signed the petition demanding Macy's pledge to never lobby against equal pay again. We want to make a really big media splash and deliver the signatures to Macy's flagship in Herald Square.
We could really use your help--can you join us for the petition delivery thisin Herald Square?
What: Petition Delivery to Macy's Herald Square
Where: 151 W 34th St, New York, NY 10001
I hope to see your there!
